Hornworms are a great group to search for at night with a small handheld black light flashlight. 🔦

Anyone who grows tomatoes will be no stranger to the tomato hornworm 🍅 that can be found defoliating your plants all summer long.

And these are just 2 of the 38 different kinds of hornworms that can be found in North Carolina!

They enjoy a variety of host plants and the moths they transform into look like everything from camouflaged fighter jets to neatly folded paper airplanes, or even hummingbirds!

Large moths, listed as Rustic Sphinx Moth, WHite-lined Sphinx Moth and Pandorus Sphinx Moth.
