We’ve been busy little bees…I mean BIRDS!
Last weekend Horticulture Agent Ashley Grubb and Extension Volunteer Samantha Baker held their monthly Children’s Nature Program. This month’s program was held at the Flora McDonald Gardens at St. Andrew’s University here in Laurinburg.

Participants went on a bird watching scavenger hunt down the nature trails, learned how birds use their beaks to eat and made their very own bird feeder to take home.

What do you eat Mr. Bird? A demonstration of the foods that different birds eat. A table set up to discuss birding and bird feeders. A table set up to create homemade bird feeders. Two birding books, How To Feed Backyard Birds and Backyard Birdsong. A child ties string to a peanut butter covered pine cone. A girl picks up pasta "worms" to see how birds eat.

Next month’s program will be on Saturday, July 13th from 9-12 a.m. at Hammond Park (715 Park Cr.) and will be a POLLINATOR PARTY!

We will watch pollinators in their natural habitat and take home wildflower seeds to plant in your back yard!

This program is FREE to everyone. We can’t wait to see you there!
