Scotland County Seed Library GRAND OPENING!

N.C. Cooperative ExtensionScotland County Center is teaming up with Scotland County Memorial Library to bring you our first ever SEED LIBRARY!

GRAND OPENING ~ JULY 22, 2024

(but will accept plant/seed donations NOW)

Seed libraries are a community resource, fostering a culture of shared sustainability and promoting the joy of gardening.

Functioning much like traditional libraries, seed libraries provide a platform for individuals to acquire seeds FOR FREE, return unused seeds, or donate seeds, seedlings, rootings and cuttings from plants grown at home!

Seed libraries encourage the growth of organic produce, supporting local ecosystems, and contributing to biodiversity.

A white cabinet that displays a sign reading "Coming Soon! Plant Swap and Seed Library."

Seed libraries not only promote healthy activities like gardening but also play a crucial role in sustaining food sources and preserving native plant varieties.

Our seed library will initially prioritize providing seeds for vegetable gardening and home food production, but over time will also highlight heirloom and native seeds, encouraging plants that serve as vital habitats for birds and essential pollinators, while also combating the spread of invasive species.

(Description adapted from the State Library of North Carolina)

A sneak peek of seed varieties that were provided to us by Eden Brothers and will be available to the public are:
